Fall Favourites & Activities

October 15, 2021

What comes to mind when you think of Fall? Whether you love all things pumpkin spice (is there any better-scented candle?) or can’t get enough of hoodie weather, there is something cozy about this time of year. With cooler weather as a welcome change of pace, there are lots of things to do to make the most of the Fall season. Here are 5 of our favourite activities:

#1 Pumpkin Picking Plus

It is probably no surprise that our first favourite Fall activity is picking pumpkins! There’s something about visiting a pumpkin patch that really kicks things off right. Whether you are looking to indulge in a freshly baked pie, decorate your front porch, or pick your own pumpkin, Brantwood Farms is a beloved local spot. Their fall festival runs every weekend until the end of October, offering fun activities like hayrides, corn mazes, a corn pit, tractor go-kart rides, and even a haunted barn for the bravest among us. From the youngest kiddos to grandparents alike, there is something for everyone.

#2 Pumpkin Painting Party

Now that you have a pumpkin, it’s time to work some magic. Traditionally, pumpkins are carved but the new trend is painting your pumpkin. From spooky to stenciled floral designs, the opportunities for painting are endless. You don’t need to be a professional…you just need a paintbrush, some paint, and your imagination. Painted pumpkins are a great feature for your outdoor space – you can use colours and designs that really make your front porch pop! Head over to your favourite craft store to stock up (pssstttt Michael’s has a ton of spooky-themed supplies).

Fall Favourites & Activities

#3 These Shoes Were Made for Walkin’

Grab your sweater, running shoes, and water bottle! There’s nothing like a nice scenic walk during the Fall season. One of our favourite spots for a hike is Apps Mill. The breeze is blowing, the leaves are falling, and the wilderness is calling. There are several trail options to cater to all skill levels, and it’s a great spot to bring your four-legged friends!

A close second is the Mount Pleasant Nature Park. After a short walk through the forest trail, you can head down to the pond and take a seat at one of the tables. We suggest packing food for a picnic. Talk about lunch with a view.

#4 We Can’t Forget About Apple Picking!

Are you a Gala or Macintosh fan? Head over to Brantview Apples and Cider in St. George to see what the best pick of the month is. Jump on a tractor ride through the orchard and grab a basket to pick some for yourself! And don’t forget about the cider. Enjoy a refreshing drink of Howell Road Cider – crisp, cool, and local. It doesn’t get much better than that!

#5. Fresh Out of the Oven

Fall festivities wouldn’t be complete without some treats (well, more treats). After your trip to the pumpkin patch and walk on the trails, head over to the Paris Bakery to satisfy your sweet tooth. You’ve earned it! From apple pie to pumpkin loaf, the Paris Bakery has a delicious selection of sweets. Check out their Instagram page @parisbakery1927 for updates and featured goodies you don’t want to miss.

That tops our list of Fall favourites. Hopefully, we’ve helped you to discover a fun new activity or local destination to try for yourself! Put a sweater on, call a friend, and get going…you’ve got things to do!
