Plan and Prepare for Spring

January 31, 2022

With winter weather swirling all around us it’s hard to imagine that spring will ever arrive. Thankfully, the cold months only last for so long and that means beautiful gardens and outdoor spaces will once again be a reality. It’s never too early to start planning for the upcoming season. At Dragonfly Landscape Supply, we have the materials and expertise to help you bring any outdoor project to life.

Make the most of the winter so that you can maximize your time outside when the weather warms up. Here are a few ways to get a head start on spring:

It’s all about the goals…

Knowing what you want to achieve is an important first step in creating an outdoor space everyone can enjoy. Do you want to create a family hang-out spot? Make a Zen area to relax in? Once you know what you are looking to create, you can start putting together a plan.

Plan and Prepare for Spring

Get particular with your planning…

✅ What is your budget for the space? Knowing how much money you have to work with will help you prioritize what projects to tackle first.
✅ What materials do you think you might need? To get a rough idea of how much vs. costs visit our materials calculator at www.dragonflylandscape.ca/material-calculator/
✅ Put together a plan. Create a strategy listing projects by priority and start researching any contacts or professionals you may need to call on.

Functional meet fun…

Make the most of your outdoor space by combining fun design features that serve a purpose and make the space usable.

Adding patio stones creates a clean focal point for your yard. This offers a put-together appearance while being easy to maintain. Hardscape surfaces are a great place to set up tables and chairs to encourage conversation. You can even add a fire pit and some outdoor lighting to keep the good vibes going after dark. And don’t forget about the BBQ! Nothing brings friends and family together like some delicious food.

Grassed or mulched areas create a safe place for kids and pets to play. Whether it's just open space to kick a ball around or something more structural like a jungle gym or swing set, a soft landing is just what the little ones need to make the most out of their playtime. Don’t forget to add comfortable seating nearby so that adults and older kids can soak up the sun while keeping an eye on all the fun.

Keep it low maintenance…

If you have a green thumb then tending a garden is a great way to spend a lazy summer afternoon, but not everyone enjoys the process. Utilizing native plants, trees, and grass in your outdoor space is an easy way to keep things low maintenance as they tend to grow optimally in our climate. Many types of shrubs and greenery can survive and thrive with minimal intervention and won’t require hours of pruning to look their best. You can also put down a layer of weed blocker covered by mulch. This adds a fun pop of colour and makes your space look stunning while cutting down on time spent pulling pesky weeds.

Starting to think about your summer oasis now will help make your springtime as productive and smooth as possible. Let our team help bring your backyard projects to life with an array of tips, guidance, and the materials you need.
